On May 10-11, a knowledge competition was held among students at the initiative of the Foreign Languages Department of the Faculty of Translation Theory and Practice of the Alisher Navoi Tashkent State University of Uzbek Language and Literature. A three stage competition was organized for 5 languages studied by students. In the competition, students tested their knowledge and skills in Arabic, Persian, Russian, French, and German languages.
At the 1st stage, students' knowledge was checked through test tasks. Grammatical and lexical knowledge were tested to determine students' level of knowledge of a foreign language.
In the 2nd stage, students' listening comprehension and writing skills in a foreign language were tested based on dictation. A dictation was written on a topic chosen by the student from among several topics.
In the 3rd stage, students' oral communication skills were checked based on the interview. Various topics were chosen by the student and free speech was carried out within this topic.
After fierce competitions, the winners were determined and awarded. The awarding ceremony was opened by Bahadir Khalikov, the first vice-rector for youth issues and spiritual and educational affairs of the university. In his speech, he specifically noted that knowledge of foreign languages is a requirement of today's times and that it is necessary to know at least two foreign languages in order to promote our national language around the world.
